The temporary Partner Visas (subclasses 820/309) are for persons who want to live in Australia with their Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen partner.

Subclass 820/309 applicants must:

1. Be sponsored by their partner who is over 18 years of age and an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen;

2. Be married to their partner; or

2. Have lived in a defacto relationship with their partner for a period of 12 months prior to making the application; or

3. Provide evidence that they have registered their relationship with the relevant State or Territory authority.;

Holders of this visa, who remain in a committed relationship with their partner for a period of 2 years from the date that the temporary visa application was made, will be eligible to apply for the Permanent Partner visa.
