The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is for persons who want to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse.

Prospective Marriage visa applicants must:

1. Be sponsored by their partner who is over 18 years of age and an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen;

2. Know and have met their partner in person;

3. Be able to demonstrate that they have a genuine commitment to a life with their partner to the exclusion of all others;

4. Intend to marry their partner and live as husband and wife within 9 months of the date of visa grant.

Once married, the visa holder may be eligible to make an application for a temporary (subclasses 820 or 309) Partner visa.

The Prospective Marriage visa is only for opposite sex couples. Same sex couples may be eligible to apply for a partner visa if they meet the requirements as a defacto couple.
