who is this visa for?

This visa is for persons who are the Fiancee of an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen, that wish to join their partner in Australia.


Prospective Marriage Visa

The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is for persons who want to come to Australia to marry their prospective spouse.


Prospective Marriage visa applicants must:

  • 1. Be sponsored by their partner who is over 18 years of age and an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen;
  • 2. Know and have met their partner in person;
  • 3. Be able to demonstrate that they have a genuine commitment to a life with their partner to the exclusion of all others;
  • 4. Intend to marry their partner and live as husband and wife within 9 months of the date of visa grant.

  • Once married, the visa holder may be eligible to make an application for a temporary (subclasses 820 or 309) Partner visa.

    The Prospective Marriage visa is only for opposite sex couples. Same sex couples may be eligible to apply for a partner visa if they meet the requirements as a defacto couple.
